51 Super Hurling 11s Playing rules Pitch Dimensions: The pitch dimensions will be approximately 110 yards long by 60 yards wide (100m x 55m). The pitch will be laid out in two halves with a defensive zone around each goal, formed by the end line, running 18 yards from each goalpost and extending 18 yards into the field of play. Size of The goals: 8 yards (7.32m) wide and 8 feet (2.44m) tall (soccer size). Number of Players: 11-a-side, Squad of 14. Substitutions: Unlimited substitution from the centre point of each team’s sideline (substitution zone – 5 yards each side of centre line, set back 1 yard from sideline) can be made during stoppages under the direction of each team management appointee. Penalty for breach - team plays with man less for 2 minutes (enforced by sideline official) Duration of Game: Fifteen minutes play each quarter and three minute break, ten minute break and five minute break. Starting the Game: Each period started with ball placed on centre spot. One player each side inside circle (20 yards in diameter) who each must raise hurley over shoulder and pull on whistle. Steps: As per normal rules Handpassing: Only one hand pass in sequence. Each hand pass must be followed by a stick strike. Kicking: No deliberate kicking. Penalty is the loss of possession to other team. Scoring: Goals only Different scoring zones: 3 points for goals within defensive zone, 5 points from outside. Time Limit: Once a team gains possession 30 seconds limit for shooting attempt. Failure to comply – Offender must place ball on ground at spot & retreat 5 yards. Taker allowed 4 unimpeded steps. Sanction - sin bin. In the last two minutes of each half time limit for shooting attempt reduced to 20 seconds. Fouls within defensive zone result in penalty. Player fouled does not have option of tap and go. Puck Outs: Ball cannot be played until it goes beyond the player’s own defensive zone. Sidelines: Can be taken from hand or ground from point where ball leaves field of play. Taker cannot step onto field of play. Penalty for breach (e.g “foot fault”) is loss of possession to other team. Frees: “Tap and go”. Taker can take free by playing ball in any legal manner (e.g. cannot pick from ground with hand, player can pick hopping ball). Opponents must retreat 5 yards and cannot impede until 4 steps taken. Sanction is penalty and sin bin for offender. Penalties: To be taken by lift and strike from centre point 20 yards from goal. Ball cannot touch ground before being hit. Before commencing to take the taker must stand stationary astride this line. One man in goal. All others outside defensive zone and 14 yards from taker. Sixty-fives: To be taken in the same manner as sidelines from sideline centre point by timekeeper’s desk. Basket of balls to be in situ. Sin bin: 2 minutes after 3 individual fouls and also for bookable (yellow card) fouls. Player returns to field of play under direction of sideline official at break in play. Sin bin is located behind subsitution zone Fouling: Penalty conceded after every 5 fouls. Catch All: Except as varied normal GAA rules apply.
